As  past director (for 12 years) of the Centre for Academic and Faculty Enrichment (CAFE) at Durham College, Chris Hinton led a team of support staff and faculty who are focused on collaborating with college faculty to enrich the learning environment for students. The Centre offers training courses, one-on-one consulting and support for projects such as the development of multimedia, new program curriculum, the integration of new learning technology, and support for research projects. The goal of the Centre is to foster relationships with faculty to empower them to create a richer learning environment, whether it is in the classroom or online. Hinton is an Associate of the Ontario College of Art (AOCA) and has a Master of Arts in Distributed Learning from Royal Roads University. Hinton sits on a number of college committees including the Academic Leadership Team, Academic Council, and the Quality Council. He is the Eastern Region executive of the Educational Technology Committee (ETC), a member of the Council of Ontario Educational Developers and Chair of the Eastern Region Coordinating Committee for Human Resources Development (CCHRD).

He has been involved with several research projects. The latest research project is the HEQCO funded: Durham College Student Success ePortfolio: Essential Employability Skills. This project is just wrapping up and the final report remains unpublished.
